FAMILY MINISTRIES

Sunday Mornings

PRESCHOOL MINISTRY

At Second Avenue Baptist Church, our priority is to offer all children an environment that is safe, secure, happy, and helps our youngest gifts to take their “First Look” at what it means to know God.  Sunday mornings provide the opportunity to do just that!  We offer care for Bed Babies all the way up to Preschoolers. We take very seriously the trust and responsibility given to us when a parent brings their little ones to church.

We have an active Child Protection policy in place with both pagers and tag systems to assure parents that their children are our top priority.  Classes are age appropriate and geared to help our Preschoolers feel apart of our Family of Faith, and learn that God created them, loves them, and wants to be their friend.

CHILDREN'S MINISTRY:

JOURNEYLAND

What if your children looked forward to Sunday school each week?  What if they couldn’t wait to find out what lesson they’d be learning, or how they’d be learning it?

This is the goal of Journeyland…to help children get excited learning about God!  Journeyland is our Sunday school program for children grades 1st – 6th that meets each Sunday from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m.  Based on a Rotational Model of learning, children are given monthly themes and are divided into age appropriate groups where they meet in variety of rooms and settings to learn about God.  One week they may experience God in Joseph’s Workshop, the next Mary & Martha’s Bed & Breakfast, and the next The Amphitheatre on Second Avenue, all while being engaged by different styles and methods of learning!  We invite you to bring your children each week and experience Journeyland!

YOUTH MINISTRY:

THE INTERSECTION

The Intersection is our Sunday Morning Bible Study for students 7th –12th grade. We gather weekly from 9:30 a.m. to 10:45 a.m.  You can expect a warm reception, breakfast, and a great atmosphere to start your week off right! At the Intersection you’ll find a Community of friends, Comfortable space, and Conversation that brings the Bible to life.  Join us, bring a friend, and come to the Intersection where life and faith meet!

COLLEGE/CAREER MINISTRY:

THE SOJOURN CLASS

Life and faith are sometimes best described as a journey, or a Sojourn.  The Sojourn Class is our Sunday morning discipleship class designed for College students.  We realize that one’s college years can be a very formative time as students begin to find their place in this world.  Our goal is to provide an environment where students can come and experience fellowship, engaging Bible Study, and be encouraged to connect their world and their faith and walk hand in hand with God on the Sojourn of Life.

Sunday Evenings

Children and Youth join their families in Family 2 Family, an integrated and intergenerational time of worship/discipleship/fellowship for the whole family of faith as an outreach to families with children and youth.  Family 2 Family meets in the Fellowship Hall at 6:00 PM.  Each evening is a mixture of activities centered on a theme.  The theme for the spring series is The Games We Play and the Questions They Raise.  We’ll take a look at some popular game shows like Deal or No Deal, Identity, Jeopardy, Amazing Race, and others to see what questions they

                            raise for our spiritual journeys.

Wednesday Evenings

Wednesday nights at Second Avenue begin with our family night meal at 5:15 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall and includes many activities for children including a fully-graded choir program and mission activities for boys, girls and preschoolers.

CHILDREN'S MISSION GROUPS meet Wednesdays at 6:45 p.m.

Preschool:

           Mission Friends: Three - Prefirst

In Mission Friends, preschoolers participate in developmentally and age-appropriate learning activities and experiences that help set the beginning stage for a missions lifestyle

Preschoolers learn by doing. As they participate in activities that provide repetition, stir curiosity, create a sense of accomplishment, help develop relationships, encourage investigation, and use their senses, they learn to help others, work together, pray, give, and tell others about God's love and His Son, Jesus.

Through example, imitation, modeling, activities, stories, cultural items, prayer, patience, and love, Mission Friends learn missions attitudes and concepts and the foundations of faith.

Children:

Girls in Action - Girls in grades 1- 5

    In GAs, girls:

    learn what missionaries do.

pray for missionaries and their work.

discover how they can help other people.

save and give money to help tell other people about Jesus.

learn about people around the world

           have fun with friends!

Royal Ambassadors - Boys in grades 1- 5

Royal Ambassadors (RAs) is a Bible-centered,

church-based, Southern Baptist mission education organization for boys.

Royal Ambassadors:

  • Gets men involved with boys in a mentoring context. It has been said that Christianity is more caught than taught. There is tremendous spiritual potential in men having a regular weekly time of spiritual training with boys.
  • Leads boys to become followers of Christ. RAs helps boys see their need and the world's need for a Savior. They hear the plan of salvation and have opportunities to respond. They also hear how missionaries carry the gospel around the world and how they are part of that task.
  • Encourages an on-mission lifestyle. As boys are involved in projects, events, and personal study, they learn what it means to be on mission with God. Participation helps them discover ways they can be lay missionaries now.

YOUTH MINISTRY:

The Foundry

True to it’s name, The Foundry is a place where youth can come and be challenged, refined, and directed towards growing into a faith that is both tested and true!

COLLEGE/CAREER MINISTRY:
