Living Generosity
5.5 | Pastor Monty Stallins

Pastor Monty Stallins
How do you respond when someone asks you for money? My honest answer is it all depends. How much? For whom? To what purpose? Did they call me and interrupt supper? Did they approach me on the street or assail me from the pulpit? How are they going to use it? Is it tax deductible? All of these seem reasonable in the moment. However, I’ll confess I rarely ask the one question that matters: what does God want me to do? Living generosity is all about allowing God, who gave us all we have, direct how we use it. We know that, but it may surprise you to find out that the decision to do so can be a matter of life or death. Welcome to our worship of the God from whom all blessings flow.
Scripture Reference Acts 4:32-5:11
The church may very well be in the midst of the greatest revolution
since the days of the Reformation. Many
people, smarter than I, are trying to articulate the shifting contexts in which
the church lives today and anticipate what changes may be necessitated by those
shifts. It is difficult to see at this
moment in time what a faithful community of faith might be in a few years. There are two things of which I am
certain. There will always be a
church. God promised the ultimate
success of the church and I trust in that promise. And, the Living Spirit of God alive in the
church will guide it toward ultimate success. The challenge comes for those of us engaged in the life of the church
now, what do we do? I would suggest we
need to learn to listen carefully to the Living Spirit of God in us. We need to embody that Spirit in such a way
as to allow God’s Presence to shape and mold us into what we need to
become. This series aims at helping us
take that first step of embodying, hopeful that we will leave the molding to
God.
