Bible Study at Second Avenue

The Family of Faith at Second Avenue values the Bible as the foundation for all we do.  We affirm that Bible study is one of the central disciplines of the Christian faith and a primary avenue for spiritual growth and a deepening walk with Christ.  Here at Second Avenue we seek to provide the best in Bible Study that is both interesting to the mind and challenging to the soul.  Following is a list of opportunities for Bible Study at Second Avenue.

For Children:

Pre-School Ministry:  At Second Avenue Baptist Church, our priority is to offer all

children an environment that is safe, secure, happy, and helps our youngest gifts to take their “First Look” at what it means to know God.  Sunday mornings provide the

opportunity to do just that!  We offer care for Bed Babies all the way up to  Preschoolers. We take very seriously the trust and responsibility given to us when a parent brings their little ones to church.  We have an active Child Protection Policy in place with both pagers and tag systems to assure parents that their children are our top priority.  Classes are age appropriate and geared to help our Preschoolers feel apart of our Family of Faith, and learn that God created them, loves them, and wants to be their friend.

JourneyLand:  What if your children looked forward to Sunday School each week?  What if they couldn’t wait to find out what lesson they’d be learning, or how they’d be learning it?  This is the goal of JourneyLand…to help children get excited while learning about God!  JourneyLand is our Sunday School program for children grades 1 – 6 that meets each Sunday from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m.  Based on a Rotational Model of learning, children are given monthly themes and are divided into age appropriate groups where they meet in avariety of rooms and settings to learn about God.

One week they may experience God in Joseph’s Workshop, the next in Mary & Martha’s Bed & Breakfast, and the next in The Amphitheatre on Second Avenue, all while being engaged by different styles and methods of learning!  We invite you to bring your children each week and experience JourneyLand!

For Youth:

The Intersection:  The Intersection is our Sunday Morning Bible Study for students

7th – 12th grade.  We gather weekly from 9:30 a.m. to 10:45 a.m.  You can expect a warm reception, breakfast, and a great atmosphere to start your week off right!  At the Intersection you’ll find a Community of friends, Comfortable space, and Conversation that brings the Bible to life.  Join us, bring a friend, and come to the Intersection where life and faith meet!

For College/Career:

The Sojourn Class:  Life and faith are sometimes best described as a journey, or a Sojourn.  The Sojourn Class is our Sunday morning discipleship class designed for College students.  We realize that one’s College years can be a very formative time as students begin to find their place in this world.  Our goal is to provide an environment where students can come and experience fellowship, engaging Bible Study, and be encouraged to connect their world and their faith and walk hand in hand with God on the Sojourn of Life.

For Adults:

The Adult Learning Community

The Adult Learning Community (ALC) is made up of adults both married and single of various ages and life stages.  This community of learning is designed to provide both a variety of engaging opportunities for spiritual growth and an atmosphere for encouraging fellowship.

Each Sunday morning (except the third Sunday of each month) begins with coffee and fellowship in the Gathering at 9:45 a.m.  This provides a time for members to reconnect, share the news of the week and pray for expressed needs.  The third Sunday of each month, we meet in family groups at 9:45 a.m. instead of the large group.

The ALC is organized into five Family Groups to help us keep in touch and care for one another during the week.  A list of Family Groups can be found on the wall in room 301 where the Gathering meets.  Family Groups meet together for prayer on the third Sunday of each month and at other times for fellowship. All classes begin at

10:00 a.m. Current classes offered are:

Sunday Evenings

SABC also offers a “family-focused” experience for the entire family on Sunday nights in the Fellowship hall at 6:00 p.m. called Family 2 Family.

Family 2 Family resumes August 7

Family 2 Family keeps families together, provides a variety of approaches for growth and fellowship and is an integrated and intergenerational time of worship/discipleship/fellowship for the whole family of faith as an outreach to

families with children and youth.

Another facet of Family 2 Family includes a core group of families who will help provide leadership during the events including the children. Family 2 Family will provide a good venue for our children to learn how to lead and participate alongside adults in our family of faith.

Wednesday Evenings

Wednesday nights at Second Avenue begin with our family night meal at 5:15 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall and includes a church-wide prayer time at 6:00 p.m. Wednesday evening includes many activities for children including a fully graded choir program and mission activities for boys, girls and preschoolers.

The Foundry is a mid-week, Youth Bible study that meets at 6:15 p.m. geared to focus on discipleship and what it truly is to follow Jesus in the real world. True to its name, The Foundry is a place where youth can come and be challenged, refined, and directed towards growing into a faith that is both tested and true!

Illuminate is a mid-week Discipleship Study for area College students. We invite all area College students to join us Wednesday nights for a free meal beginning at

5:15 p.m., followed by Bible Study at 6:15 p.m.

Our Adult Bible Study is led by the Pastor and is a verse-by-verse study of a book of the Bible. The group is currently studying Genesis. The study begins at 6:15 p.m. and is held in our Chapel.
