This Is Our Moment

This Sunday is our moment.  It is the day on which this family of faith takes its place in the line of faithfulness that began in 1906 with a handful of believers praying for God’s providence in the founding of a new church.  That line continued through other moments as the congregation that grew from that prayer circle established itself on Maple Street and then moved to Second Avenue.  Now, it is our moment.  Will we rise to the occasion?

Such moments call for sacrifice.  They are times when extraordinary things occur and, as such, require more than the ordinary from those who are a part of them.  What a blessing to be here at this time on the horizon of the new day to which God is calling His people in this place.  What an opportunity God has given us to be a part of His work in our community.

Sunday will be a day of culmination.  It caps off months of work on behalf of our Second Century Campaign Leadership Team who have worked so diligently to get us here.  Moreover, it is the fruit of a process that extends back several years as we sought what God would have us to be and to do on this corner in East Rome.  May 20 is not simply another Sunday; it is a day of culmination.  Much work has been done. Many prayers have been prayed.  Now, we get to see what God will do.

Sunday will also be a day of new beginnings.  I am excited about the future of Second Avenue Baptist Church.  That future begins this Sunday as we commit together to take the steps necessary to prepare ourselves and our campus for new challenges of outreach and expanded opportunities for ministry.  In fact, the speed with which that future will unfold is to a certain extent dependent upon our commitment.  Make no mistake, God can and will do what He desires through our church.  However, our commitment and cooperation will accelerate the pace.

This is our moment.  May we be counted faithful along with those on whose shoulders we stand today.  Come this Sunday with open hearts and we will praise God together for what He has done in our midst.

Blessings,

Monty

Vacation Bible School

Vacation Bible School is right around the corner! We are VERY excited about VBS this year! The theme is SonForce Kids where children will be treated to a "secret agent" experience as they seek to complete their assigned missions and discover God's love.

I have been very pleased with the momentum that has been building. We've had a great team of workers sign-up and they have been busy getting ready for a great week! So, join us in praying for Vacation Bible School! Pray for our children as they learn to TRUST God's love & plans for them, UNITE with God's people, TRAIN to serve Him, FOLLOW His path overcoming difficulties, and LEAD others to trust in His promises.

Mark your calendars, spread the word, and remember the details:
