The Heart of This Church Sunday evening after Family 2 Family as we were putting things away, one of our second graders came up and asked a question: “Where is the heart of this church?” Children always have a way of asking the spiritual and existential in the most mundane of moments. I asked him to repeat the question (an all-too-obvious stall for time) and then I gave him the best answer I could muster in the moment: the heart of this church is you and I. The heart of this or any church is in its people. I continued to reflect on that question the rest of the evening and into Monday morning. As I write this column Monday afternoon, I still feel pretty good about my answer. I feel even better about the question. This is a crucial month for our Family of Faith. This is the month in which we will all be called to commit to our Second Century Campaign. I truly believe that God has provided us with an opportunity of stewardship to demonstrate our faith and connect our past with our future and the vision to which God is calling us. But that is not all that is happening this month. May will also be a time when we begin the process of learning to live without the day-to-day presence of a great class of high school seniors. This month we will honor our children and our mothers with special services and recognitions while, at the same time, giving to those who are in need of the care and support of families through the Georgia Baptist Children’s Home. There is a lot happening; all of which points to the heart of Second Avenue Baptist Church. As I have come to know us…
This Family of Faith has a heart and it can be found in every one of us. Thank you for being who you are. Blessings, Monty

Sunday, June 3, 11:00 AM 100th Anniversary Homecoming Service Followed by dinner on the grounds Thank You for Being a Family of Faith That is Being the Body of Christ in the World! April has been a wonderful month full of events, activities, etc. This has been true for our Family Ministries with events for all of our age groups! April Events included our Community wide Egg Hunt, Parent's Night Out, Youth Carwash for our Second Century Campaign, Youth Rally/After-Prom Event, and a Vacation Bible School information/training meeting! It takes several people to make these events happen and without help from the fine folks of Second Avenue, they could not be provided. I would like to say THANK YOU to all of you who turned out to give parent's a night out, hide eggs, cook meals, wash cars, stay up late with teenagers, and invest a Sunday afternoon getting ready for Vacation Bible School. The bottom-line...THANK you for being a Family of Faith that is being the Body of Christ in the world! You are all very appreciated. -Charlie High School Graduate Recognition Upcoming Children and Youth Ministry Events 2007:
“Did You Think To Pray?” An old gospel song asks that question. Prayer is direct communication with God our Father through the Lord Jesus Christ. An hour in church is wasted for us if we fail to talk to Him and let Him speak to us. So, “Did you think to pray?” The Prayer Room off the Narthex of the church is an appropriate place to spend a moment in prayer before the service begins. While we are all good at friendliness and greeting each other, remember that the musical prelude by the organist is designed to settle us down and get us into a prayerful and worship frame of mind. Approach the Throne of Grace on behalf of the worship leadership, those who have come with heavy burdens, those who have not experienced God’s gracious Gift in Christ, and all of us who come as unworthy sinners. Ask that our hearts be open especially to hear what the Lord is saying to us today. Don’t forget to pray!
