Home Missions When Jesus was about to ascend back into heaven, He gave His followers a paradigm for the mission of the church. Acts 1:8 records these words, “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth." Perhaps by that Jesus meant that our missional endeavor must begin where we are or perhaps He meant that we must share the Gospel with everyone everywhere. I believe He meant both. We are commissioned as Christ-followers to see to it that the Gospel reaches every corner of the earth and, at the same time, are responsible for our own community. That is why we collect the Easter Offering for Home Missions. Traditionally, the term "home missions" has referred to those missionary efforts that happen in the United States. Recently, that definition has been extended, at least by the North American Mission Board, to include Canada and Mexico. This year you will have the opportunity to support missions both on a continental and local scale through three giving options recommended by our Missions Committee. You may direct your Easter Missions Offering to any of these three recipients: Annie Armstrong Easter Offering for the North American Mission Board This is the traditional Easter offering for SBC related churches. Funds given through this offering will be used by NAMB missionaries to share the Gospel in North America. All envelopes that are otherwise undirected will be sent to this recipient. Global Missions Offering of the CBF The Cooperative Baptist Fellowship does not distinguish between oversees and continental missions for offering purposes. However, you may designate your offering to CBF and it will support missionaries including those in North America. Morningstar Treatment Services Morningstar is a ministry to children with severe emotional disabilities often resulting from abuse. They provide residential care and treatment at the Youth Estate in Brunswick as well as Family Resource Centers that provide direct services for families. These centers are located around the state including one here in Rome. If you designate your offering for Morningstar, it will go to help provide treatment, housing, education and basic care for some of the most needy of God’s children. I hope you will take full advantage of one of these three options. Jesus issued the imperative. May we respond in obedience. Blessings, Monty

Celebrating a Century of Faith: Our Story… Minutes from April 1, 1908 Church Conference The East Side Baptist Church met in regular prayer service, and after the service, the church discussed the plans for the building of a church house. Several of the brethren decided among themselves to make a note and borrow $500.00 for the use of the church. They deemed that it was almost impossible to raise the required amount of money by subscription, as was first planned. The plan was adopted, and a note was signed by J. N. Crozier, J. W. Andrews, M. G. Shiflett, H. P. Duncan, Jesse T. Williams, and Rev. S. B. King, (and) was filled out in favor of O. L. Stamps of Rome, and money secured to the amount of $460.00; $40.00 was deducted for one year interest. Immediately, lumber was contracted for, and just as soon as it could be secured, delivered to the church, which was rushed to completion so the next service could be held in the new church. It was decided to change the name of the church from East Side to Maple Street Baptist Church, from the time the first service was held in the new building on Sunday, May 10 the first service was held in the new church.
