Another Great Day!

2007 has already been a year of many great days and we certainly added another one to the list with this past Sunday.  Our 100th Anniversary Homecoming was a truly wonderful occasion.  Almost 300 came for worship and dinner and they were rewarded for their efforts.  The worship service was filled with great Gospel music and all of us left filled with more than enough fantastic food.

Of course all of that didn’t happen by accident, many planned and participated in the day.  Thanks to Ann Day and the 100th Anniversary Committee for all of their work on everything from worship planning to setting up our lunch.  Thanks to all who sang and to Dr. Lamar Barden for a challenging message.  Thanks to all who came ‘home’ for the day to make it a wonderful time of fellowship.  It was a joy to see all of you.

Another great thing about this past Sunday was the announcement that we have pledged $1,058,000 to the Second Century Campaign.  Thank you for prayerfully considering what God would call you to do and then making the commitment to answer that call.  Again, such a campaign does not just happen.  Special thanks to all who served on committees and the Leadership Team.  I cannot begin to express my personal gratitude to God for all of your hard work.  Remember that this coming Wednesday, June 6, we will meet in conference to discuss how to proceed with the funds God has provided.

My favorite moment, however, was the recognition of our Deacons Emeriti.  What an amazing thing to recognize six of our own whose service and leadership have been exemplary through the years.  I know of no group of people who better represent both the faithful past and hopeful future of our family of faith.  Paul once called the saints in Jerusalem the “pillars of the church”.  Certainly, these six are pillars of our church.  Thank you to each one.

What a great day!  However, I am convinced that there are even better days ahead.  I look forward to seeing what God will do now through us.  Don’t you?

Blessings,

Monty

Worship Ministry

A Special Thanks to Long-time Volunteers

Julie Stansell has played the piano for the Joyful Singers for 17 years. We appreciate her dedication and loyalty for work that few in our church ever experience.  She is loved by all in the Joyful Singers and is a much-appreciated quiet warrior for the Lord.

Vickie Hill has led the Children’s Choir for over 11 years. We appreciate her dedication to the Lord and to our children. She is taking a well-deserved break in the fall from leading the choir.

Gail Garland has led our Preschool Choir for over four years. She will be changing her responsibilities in the fall and will no longer be leading the choir. We thank her for her time and dedication to our children.

Prayer Reminder Bracelets

For several weeks now we've been engaged in our "Pray for Each Other" focus, using silicone bracelets as reminders and as visible witnesses. We exhausted our original supply and ordered more, which have been used up, as well. Most are green, but some are blue. Perhaps you have one and are not using it. Please do! We all forget so easily! Exchange bracelets with someone else who is wearing one, and pray for that person for up to a week before exchanging again.

But if you don't plan to continue doing it, would you please help us by returning the bracelets to the church so that others can use them? Don't miss the blessing of "Praying for one another."

Wes Ellis,

Prayer Support Team

Our Story…

Church Notes from 1950-

2/50W. C. Smith, Jr. was recommended as a student to the Seminary in

Louisville.

3/50—Jack Pinson left for the spring training camp of the St. Louis Cardinals in Albany, GA.

4/50—Our WMU was the only A-1 WMU in Floyd County.

4/50—Easter Sunday-476 in Sunday school (only 25 short of the goal of 501). Attendance at morning worship was largest some people remembered—certainly in the last five years.

12/50—Junior Department had a contest submitting essays on “What Christmas means to me.” The winner was Jere Drummond. Receiving honorable mention were Charlotte Coffman, Jean Payne, and Belinda Sharp.

7/50—From Informer “Our ‘air-conditioning’ continues to work well. For the benefit of those of you not ‘in the know’, ‘air-conditioning’ means our morning attendances have been large enough to require raising the moveable partitions and that adds to the coolness of the auditorium; then in addition, our men folks take off (or leave on) their coats.”
