Please Pardon Our Progress
Last week, the church in conference approved the recommendation of the Construction Oversight Committee to begin the renovations to the church. If you were not here, there are copies of the committee’s recommendation on the table in the second floor hallway. The estimated total cost is currently just over $1.1 Million. The great news is that we have now committed $1.072 Million to the campaign! (If you haven’t made your pledge to the Second Century Campaign, please consider one.) The work is already underway. So, please pardon our progress. Over the next few weeks we will have to make some adjustments to our schedule and locations to accommodate the renovations. Here is a summary:
o Adult V Joy Class to the Choir Room o Adult IV Fellowship to the Chapel o Adult IV Ladies to the Bride’s Room o Adult IV Men to the Third Floor Room 302B
My deepest hope is that our newly appointed facilities will reflect the renovations God has already been doing on our congregation. These are exciting days. This work is the product of much prayer, conversation, and commitment on the part of many in our family of faith. It is much anticipated and welcomed. So, all I ask is, please pardon our progress. Blessings, Monty
Worship Ministry One of the temptations we face when vacationing is to forget to add our worship of the Lord to our schedule. Being away from home isn’t any excuse for being away from God’s Word. We can take along with us a devotional book, meditations, or our daily schedule for reading the Bible. A good attitude regarding worship while traveling can be found in Genesis 12:8 “And he...pitched his tent, having Bethel on the west, and Hai on the east: and there he builded an altar.” Traveling in a car can be a great opportunity for family worship, Singing hymns together, talking about a verse of Scripture, and reciting prayers can help the kids see what treasured tools we have to worship our Lord with!
Vacation is often an opportunity to try something new, exciting, and different such as visiting a church. Last summer while on vacation, we found a church near our motel in Oklahoma City. It was very interesting to see how we were treated as guests in their church. We learned many lessons with one being, to be more sensitive to our guests in our own church. Let us know of your worship experiences over your summer vacations. Steve New Member By profession of faith: Bennett Poorman Family Deacon: Ralph Rutledge Urgent Prayer Needs If you have pressing needs for prayer, use the “Prayer Request” cards that you will find in the pew racks and in the Narthex Prayer Room to write those requests. Or, use any piece of paper. Write “URGENT” in bold letters on the top. Give the cards to an usher or place them in the offering plate. They will be passed on to the appropriate people for attention. Remember that your family at Second Avenue Baptist cares and will pray for you. -Prayer Ministry Team Holiday Closing The church office will be closed in observance of the July 4 holiday. Vacation Bible School Report What a GREAT week of Vacation Bible School! You’ll be proud to know that we graduated a strong group of children from their SonForce Kids Agency Training! During the course of the week we had 109 children register. Of these 109 children, 84 of them were not our own! This is a great example of our Family of Faith reaching out to be the Body of Christ in the world...particularly the community that God has placed us in! Of course, SonForce Kids would have never been possible without the tremendous amount of help that we received from our workers! We had over 50 of the Second Avenue Faithful come throughout the week to help and everyone did a great job! It made me proud to be a part of such a great church! To each of you who served, prayed for, and supported Vacation Bible School I offer you my deepest thanks.
