Don’t Miss a Moment in May If you miss a moment of May, you’re sure to miss something important. As hard as it is to believe, May is upon us in just a couple of weeks and there is so much going on here on the corner of Second Avenue and Ninth Street that, if you blink, you might just miss something. I know all of you read this newsletter faithfully and have already marked your calendars with all these special days. However, in case you didn’t, here are some things you will want to mark down. May 5 10:30 AM Women’s Ministry Brunch Our ladies are planning a wonderful morning of praise, devotion, and fellowship. May 6 4:00 PM Family 2 Family Finale at Lock and Dam Park This will be a great wrap to our Spring Sunday night series. The evening will include our annual RA Racer Derby, a cook-out for the whole church family and the last in our Family 2 Family installments: Second Avenue Idol. All are welcome. Call or email Charlie in the church office to sign up for the talent show portion of the evening—all talents are welcome. May 13 Mother’s Day OK, this is a friendly reminder to all children and fathers, get Mom a card at least! Our children will lead in worship that day and we will honor our mothers with a special offering for the Georgia Baptist Children’s Home. Worship Ministry The Joyful Singers will be singing at Chulio Hills Retirement Center, April 26, at 11:00 AM with Luncheon Club to follow. We would love to have you join us and lend a hand to help those who could use your touch. The Youth Choir will lead in worship at a retirement center May 20 and also sing in morning worship services May 27 and June 3. Come and join us each Sunday at 5:00 PM in the Choir Room as we prepare for these new opportunities to share part of what God has given us. Family 2 Family is sponsoring a “Second Avenue Idol” Talent Show on May 6 at Lock and Dam Park. This event will follow a picnic in the park. We are searching for all kinds of talent for this evening of fun and fellowship. Be practicing your entry and let us know that you'll be part of this wonderful event. If you would like to be part of the Drama Team this spring/summer season, call or email me at church and we will place you with 22 others throughout many worship events over the next few months. Second Century Update Much is happening with the Second Century Project. The public phase of the campaign launched this past Sunday with everyone receiving information packets including the DVD. Watch your mail for a brochure to be mailed in a few days. There have also been other major developments in the project. At a called church conference last Wednesday evening, April 11, the church approved the purchase of the Borokoff property on East 9th Street. That property is adjacent to the Furman property the church already owns. The purchase should be completed soon and the Construction Oversight Committee is in the process of evaluating how to use the additional property in the master site plan. Furthermore, the Construction Committee continues to review plans with Pinsons, Inc., project managers. The committee is currently awaiting recommendations from the interior designer on the project. Once plans, designs, and costs have been collected; the Construction Oversight Committee will present the package to the church. Please continue to pray for all involved as they work to put all the pieces together. Volunteers and Canned Food Needed for Community Kitchen April 30-May 4 Volunteers are needed to help throughout the week. (Two male volunteers are needed daily for lifting, etc.) If you can help, contact the day captain for the day you are available. A time period has been set-aside for all of the members of Second Avenue to come for a few minutes to pray in the Chapel—from 4:00 PM until about 7:30 PM (except during Family 2 Family in Fellowship Hall). Prayer requests are being collected (have you turned yours in yet?) and will be there, along with lists of all of the members of our church family. Requests don’t need to be signed, but they will be personal—about concerns, worries, burdens, and needs of others or ourselves. We need to lift each other before the Lord in prayer! Our Pastor has challenged us to ask the Lord to show us what He wants to do through each of us to accomplish His will in our church and what degree of sacrifice He would have us to make joyfully and expectantly as we proceed into our second century as a church. Certainly we want to include these. You can come at your convenience, quietly pick up some of these requests and lists, and pray for each one. Put a “check mark” by each name or request for whom you have prayed so that we will know that every one has been touched through our prayers. You may want to bring your Bible or a devotional book to read, as well. Someone from the Prayer Support Team will be there to assist you if necessary. But let’s maintain a quiet reverence during this sacred occasion. Even if you can’t come to the Chapel, we hope that you will spend some time in private or family prayer during that period of 4:00 PM-7:30 PM on Sunday. We’re counting on each other to PRAY!
