10.14.07 = 250 + 400 + 101

OK, I know that math doesn’t make sense, but this little equation is not about math.  It is just a way to catch your attention and help you remember our next big day here at SABC.  October 14 (10.14.07) is an important day in many respects.  That day we will wrap up our celebration of our 100th Anniversary.  It has been a wonderful year of recalling our past and celebrating what God has done through this family of faith over the last century.  October 14 will be the culmination of that celebration.

October 14 is about the past, but it is also about the future.  That day we will rededicate our Sanctuary and ourselves to a second century of being the body of Christ in our world.  To help us, we have invited the Atlanta Festival Brass to come and, literally, sound the trumpet as we consecrate again our place of worship.  We will also extend an open house invitation to our community to come and see what the renovations have produced.

On the other side of the equation are three numbers.  The first two are significant because they represent people.  We don’t often focus on numbers around here but October 14 seems like a good day to do so.  We want everyone to be here, so we have set some goals for that day.  We want to see 250 in Sunday School, which would be the largest attendance in my tenure here.  Also, we want to have 400 in worship.  We just topped that in February and it would be great to fill our Sanctuary again!

Of all the numbers in this equation, the last one is by far the most important.  101 represents our 101st year, which is this year.  The present is always the most important time.  Today is a gift from God.  We can celebrate our past and dedicate ourselves for the future but we live in the present.  So, let me ask you a question.  How is your walk with God today?  Do you sense Him at work in your life?  What is He calling you to do?  Don’t put it off.  Share your faith.  Spend time in prayer.  Read His Word.  Do a kind act.  Share generously.  What’s done is done and what will be is not yet.  So, live today as God calls you to live.

Worship Ministry

The Cotton Patch Gospel returns in February 2008. We hope to increase the cast this year.

Auditions for The Cotton Patch Gospel will be held Sunday, Sept. 23 and 30 following the Family-2-Family events. Prepare to sing one hymn; your choice, and read from given script. All ages are welcome to audition. Please sign-up on the bulletin board in the Choir Room for specific times for audition.

Children’s Choir: Wed., 6:00 PM, in Children’s Amphitheatre.

Grades 1-5.

Youth Choir: Sun., 5:00 PM, in Choir Room, Grades 6-12.

Chancel Choir: Wed., 7:00-8:00 PM, in Choir Room, Grades 8-68.

Joyful Singers: Thurs., 10:00 AM, in Chapel, unless leading worship in community. All ages.

Handbells: Wed., 6:30-7:00 PM, in Sanctuary Balcony. Adults.

Instrumental Ensemble: Sun., 9:00-9:30 AM, in Sanctuary. All ages.

Cotton Patch Gospel-Auditions: Sept. 23 and 30. Sign-up in Choir Room.

Second Annual Christmas Pageant: Dec. 8 and 9, we are in need of a construction team and seamstresses at this time.

Media Ministry Team: We need volunteers for both audio and video production teams.

Annual Fall Harvest Banquet

Attention All SABC Adults:

Plan to attend the Annual Fall Harvest Banquet on Thursday, October 11 at 6:30 PM in the Fellowship Hall. We will have BBQ and all the trimmings, fabulous professional entertainment, and lots of fun. Our theme is a “country-western Hoe-Down” and will be complete with a contest (with prizes) for the Best Western male and female outfit. Dust off your boots and come for the good times! Tickets are $10.00 per person and are presently on sale in the church office or from Susan Kelly, Bill Teat, Jimmie McGraw, Margaret Pinson, Irma Cleaveland, Jane and Lynn Brandon. 1986

March—Bonnie Bowen to be Minister of Childhood Education

April—”Cotton Patch Gospel” presented 4/24,25,26,27 in our Sanctuary.

July—New church secretary, Barbara Pollan.

1987

March—80th Anniversary Celebration. Church voted to join Baptist Tel Net. Renovation began on Children’s Wing on 2nd floor. Letter of recommendation for Dale Doud to attend Southern Baptist Seminary. State WMU Convention at First Baptist Church, Rome.

April—Floyd County Association bought house on South Broad-need volunteers. Choir did  “Then Came the Morning”. Deacons recommended selling bus.
