Embrace, Engage, Encourage

I know it seems that summer has just begun, but the reality is that fall is soon approaching. While it will not arrive on the calendar until later in September, here at SABC “fall” actually begins August 1. That’s when all of the new programs, classes and activities begin for what is the traditional beginning of the educational year for the church. We kick off this year with DiscipleNow for the youth on Friday, August 1 and get into full swing for everyone with the launch of the new Sunday School year on August 3. This is a great day as our children and youth (and the rare adult) transition to new classes. On August 6, our Wednesday evening activities resume including Family Night Dinner and Prayer Time. We will have choir for our children and a new and improved children’s program (see inside for details). Our youth will begin meeting again and adults will begin a new study on the Book of Acts from the New Testament. Our worship ensembles will also get a fresh start, which makes this time of year a great time to join the choir, hand bells or instrumental ensemble.

As programs get restarted, we will take up the next phase in our Body Life theme for the year. In the fall, we will be talking about exercising the Body by getting it out into the world. This phase will use three thematic words: embrace, engage and encourage. Throughout the fall, we will embrace the call of God to our community. We will engage in active ministry to it and we will encourage one another to take up a lifestyle of missional living.

The centerpiece of this three-fold emphasis will be something we are calling Mission Engage in the month of September. During that month, we are challenging every member of SABC to perform some act of ministry within our community, away from our church campus. In August, we will create a bulletin board in the Fellowship Hall to outline various opportunities. Also, during worship in September we will hear from four of our primary community ministry partners (William S. Daviess Homeless Shelters, Rome Action Ministries, Habitat for Humanity and Good Neighbor Ministry) about ways we can be involved with them. We will also have two Saturdays to engage in ministry together as a congregation: September 13 and 27. Details will follow on these dates later. We want you to get engaged and have someone take a picture so we can add it to a ‘mountain of ministry’ we will be building in the Sanctuary.

Fall is going to be an exciting time here at the corner of Second Avenue and Ninth Street. We hope you will join us for every minute of it.

Blessings,
Monty

We are always looking for new members to join our team. Join us as we sing the best of contemporary, gospel, traditional, classical, and disco music. Once again, we will be featuring smaller groups such as the Women’s and Men’s Ensembles, Gospel Quartet, Praise Teams, and others.
