Home Missions

We are a missional church. The Mission of God has become not only something we do but who we are. There are multiple expressions of that reality, but two I want to draw attention to here. First, being missional means we give to missions. We give to missions every week through our regular offerings and we give to missions twice a year in special offerings. The spring offering, anchored by our Easter Celebration, goes toward home missions. This year our goal is $7500 and you are asked to direct your gifts either to the Annie Armstrong Easter Offering for the North American Missions Board (SBC) or the Global Missions Offering of the CBF (just mark your envelope or check accordingly). We will place a flowering cross in the Sanctuary that will blossom as we meet our goal.

Being a missional church also means that we do missions in direct ways. This summer we will have an excellent opportunity to be on mission in our community. A team consisting of members of our Missions Committee and Childhood Ministries Team are currently working on plans for a summer day camp to be held here at SABC two or three weeks this June. Many of the details are still being worked out, but here is what I can tell you so far. The camp will begin on June 9 and run Monday through Friday from 9 AM to 1 PM for two or three weeks (depending upon volunteers). It will be open for up to 90 children ages 5 to 12, both from our church and community. We are partnering with local elementary schools to get the word out to families. Each day will include Bible teaching, crafts, music, recreation, and lunch and each week will end in a field trip. The camp will be free and staffed fully by volunteers (this means you). We will need over 40 each week. Consider taking a week off this summer just like you would for an out of town missions trip and join us. There will be an informational luncheon immediately following the worship service on March 9. I hope you will come and find out more about how you can be involved.

God has planted us on this corner and given us a heart for missions and a Body of Christ with which we can live out our missional call. I am thankful to serve a church that loves its community and is willing to serve it in meaningful ways. I look forward to this great year of giving and doing missions together!

Blessings,
Monty

Worship Ministry
The Cotton Patch Gospel begins this week, Friday-Sunday at 7:00 PM each night. Our cast this year includes Bruce Day, Bill Pinson, Joe Spota, Vickie Hill, Jim Chittom, Richard Garland, Micah Johnson, Brenda Bennett, Parker Aziz, Charlie Mayberry, Ellen Wills, Martha Bonner, Annette Herrington, Hannah Fillingim, Rachel Garland, and Bennett Garland. These 16 people have put in countless hours of practice since November preparing for this weekend. It has been a real team effort.

Please pray for all who participate in the musical this week. Especially, for those who come to hear the Gospel message presented in this unique manner. May their hearts and minds be open to the Lord. We hope to see you each night!

Help Our Outreach Team
Have you longed for a way in which you could contribute to the growth of Second Avenue Baptist Church, but were at a loss as to what you could do? Presto, the answer is in this paragraph! Over the coming months, the Outreach Team will be encouraging each of you to be alert to NEW folks moving into Rome. You might notice this happening in your neighborhood, at a social event, or new personnel being hired at your place of work.

If you become aware of NEW Romans, please consider submitting at least their name and phone number (and any other info that you know) to the Outreach Team, and we will follow up with a “Welcome to Rome Gift Basket”, with a friendly invitation to visit SABC. You will find a form and a box to put it in outside the church office. This is a very simple, non time-consuming way that you can be a great help to this ministry! We need your help!
